Mikaela D was enjoying her summer before her senior year (Cary Academy, Class of 2016) and reached out to My Friend Teresa Studios for High School Senior Portrait Cary.   She had some very interesting ideas for her shoot and we couldn’t wait to get started!

High School Senior Portrait Cary Mikaela D Class of 2016

Mikaela has a passion for travel.  She is ‘always flying’ somewhere, including to do volunteer work in Nicaragua.  As we got to know her even more, we also learned that she secretly always wanted to be a cowgirl!   She was seeking a different place than other people for her senior portraits – one that reflected her interests and personality.   Put all that together and we planned her high school senior portrait Cary shoot for the RDU airport and a cool farm supply store in Carpenter!

Teresa met Mikaela in early August just before school started for a shoot that was unique and fun.   Mikaela was right at home at the airport and looked like she was ready to fly off on her next adventure!  She laughed as she leaned against a bench outside the ticket counter, and posed with the luggage carts.  Her colorful flowing pants were the mark of an experienced traveller – comfortable yet stylish.

For the other unique aspect of Mikaela’s shoot, she and Teresa met at the ‘from another time and place’ classic farm supply store in Carpenter.  Who knew that in middle of Cary’s numerous neighborhoods was this rural store that looks like it hasn’t changed in years.  Mikaela was the perfect country girl with her beautiful plaid dress, cowgirl hat and stylish boots.  She made everyone smile – even the old-timers watching from the store.

Mikaela and her family viewed the portraits a few weeks later and were thrilled at their choices.  With nearly 50 proof to choose from, Mikaela chose her favorite as her yearbook photo.  She and her family chose a special one as a print to enjoy together.  But they just couldn’t part with all of them, so they decided on the full digital collection and over 30 proof prints.

Mikaela has graduated and is on to her next adventure (probably on a plane!).   Her kindness towards others is her hallmark and an important part of everything she does.  We loved working (and laughing) with her for this important milestone in her life.
