When Cary Academy Class of 2016 senior Lydia E was looking for a photographer specializing senior portraits, the choice was easy! My Friend Teresa studios worked with her brother Oliver and her sister Dorrit for portraits and the family was pleased to work with us again.
Photographer Specializing Senior Portraits
Lydia E approached us in late summer before starting her senior year at Cary Academy, Class of 2016. She was seeking a unique and cool location where she could bring props (her guitar)….and ‘top’ her brother Oliver and sister Dorrit’s sessions. A tall order, but a fun challenge!
In late summer, just before school started, we met Lydia at the downtown Durham American Tobacco Campus on a hot summer evening. The campus and surrounding areas offer an urban vibe, but also some outdoor green space. The bright blue flower mural on a nearby building was a great backdrop…and no match for Lydia’s bright blue eyes! A warehouse door was a striking backdrop for some cool black and white pictures of Lydia. The iconic steps of the local cantina, and the graffiti laden brick walls, were just the look she wanted.
One of Lydia’s passions is music. We wanted some additional pictures in a natural setting with her guitar. Some family friends gave us access to their beautiful gardens. The day we met there it was raining a bit, but we still wanted to try to get some great portraits. Just when we thought we would have to end the session due to the rain…..the sun came out and created a huge double rainbow. Beautiful! Lydia definitely topped her siblings with this portrait!
Lydia and her family met with us a few weeks later to view her portrait proofs. With over 50 to choose from, the choices were numerous. They decided to purchase the entire digital collection. Lydia chose her favorite for her yearbook photo. The ‘rainbow’ picture is one of our all time favorite portraits and has a prominent place on our studio office wall!
Lydia is planning to attend college. She speaks German, has played violin most of her life, and plays field hockey. She loves playing music with her family, and fun nights out with her friends. She hopes to become a physician and also hopes to travel abroad. We hope there are lots of rainbows in her future!
