Meet Kate

Every senior portrait experience tells its own story, and Kate’s was filled with color, confidence, and creativity. Kate is a senior at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, and she wanted her portraits to reflect her personality and the things she cares about the most, especially Ziggy, her sweet-as-can-be dog. Her senior portrait experience took us from lively Downtown Raleigh to the golden light of Lake Wheeler, creating a collection that captured her joy, warmth, and vibrant spirit.

Planning the Perfect Senior Portrait Experience

We began with Kate’s planning meeting, where we learned more about her interests, style, and what she hoped her senior portraits would express. These meetings are one of our favorite parts of the process because they help us create a session that feels like a true reflection of each senior.

Once we understood Kate’s vision – which was to incorporate a pink backdrop – we moved into her design meeting to plan outfits that fit that color palette and her personality. Our goal is always to create outfits that make each senior look and feel their best. Kate was drawn to pinks and neutrals, which complemented her natural features beautifully.  Together we curated several looks that brought out her bold confidence, her girly and down-to-earth style, while matching the locations we had in mind for her session. With gorgeous pops of color (her favorite color, no less) her hot pink jumpsuit gave just enough flair and drama that would balance out the downtown Raleigh settings, while her floaty pastel pink top and soft green dress balanced with a calmer feel, which was perfect for being beside the lake.

Kate’s senior portrait session began in Downtown Raleigh, where her love of color and bold style took center stage. From a perfectly pink wall to her bright jumpsuit, and her gentle confidence, we captured it all in her senior pictures.

Downtown Raleigh: Urban Neutral and The Perfect Pink Wall

As a senior portrait photographer, we are constantly exploring new and beautiful places for sessions. Teresa has over 300 locations to choose from, so when Kate mentioned she wanted something pink, Teresa knew exactly where to go. In Downtown Raleigh, we found the perfect pink wall that felt like it was waiting just for her. The beautiful brickwork with the pastel pink overlay added a beautiful, feminine touch to an otherwise urban area. This gave a vibrant pop of color to her senior portrait experience, and helped each image feel just like her.

Golden Hour at Lake Wheeler

For the second part of Kate’s senior portrait experience, we headed over to Lake Wheeler, one of our favorite places to be by the water in the NC Triangle. Kate loves sunsets, so it was the ideal spot to create warm, natural portraits that felt both relaxed and elegant. The golden light reflecting off the water added a dreamy glow to her gallery, and we incorporated a few sprigs of baby’s breath as a delicate prop. This small touch added a romantic and timeless feel to her senior portraits, and felt especially personal as Kate loves flowers. We loved tying together her favorite things to create senior pictures that completely celebrated her.

We love how sunset to captures a softness in senior portraits, brought out by the golden light. Kate’s pastel tones and a touch of baby’s breath highlighted the golden hour at Lake Wheeler, shortly followed by a sentimental session with her sweet dog Ziggy by her side.

The Sweetest Finish with Ziggy

The following day, we headed to Kate’s home so that we could photograph her in the space that she grew up in. There is nothing more authentic for telling your senior’s story than doing so in the place they call home. We were joined by Ziggy, Kate’s dog, and capturing their connection was so special. The playful bond and energy between the two of them brought so much warmth to Kate’s senior portraits and added a personal touch to the collection. These images were full of love and genuine connection, completing her senior portrait experience beautifully.

Be You, With Us

At My Friend Teresa Studios, we design every senior portrait experience to reflect who your child is. We take the time to plan, guide, and celebrate their story so that you are left with senior portraits that look beautiful and feel true to them, in this moment.

Kate’s senior pictures reflected her feminine style, love of color, her sense of fun, and her confident energy as she begins her next chapter. For her family, they now have senior portraits that they will cherish for the years to come – long after Kate goes to college and even beyond that. If you’re looking for a senior portrait photographer who will help your child feel celebrated, seen, and completely themselves, look no further.
