Meet Anika, a senior at Green Level High School in Cary, who reflects the classic girl-next-door vibe. Anika wanted her senior pictures to feel relaxed, authentic, and true to who she is – our favorite brief. After meeting with Anika and her mom for her planning session where we got to know her, her likes and dislikes and carried that into her in-home design meeting to choose the perfect outfits that told that story, we were excited to bring it to life in her senior portrait session.
Golden Light and Natural Beauty in Chapel Hill
We began Anika’s senior portrait experience at the Forest Theater on the UNC campus in Chapel Hill. The setting felt secluded and calm, while being full of the golden light she had envisioned. The stone steps and tall trees created a natural backdrop that matched her personality perfectly, without overpowering her senior pictures.
From there, we walked over to the UNC Arboretum, a place known for its soft, colorful gardens. This one of the best-kept secrets in Chapel Hill, as while it is full of blooms, it has a ‘secret garden’ feel to it. The flowers were softly-colored and subtle, providing just the right amount of background interest without taking focus away from her. One of our favorite moments was when Anika stood confidently among delicate yellow blooms, glowing in the evening light. The warm tones brought a beautiful harmony to her senior pictures, giving an elevated close-to-home feel. UNC Chapel Hill holds a special meaning for Anika since her big brother goes to school there. So including downtown Chapel Hill and features of the UNC campus in her senior portrait experience made the day even more personal and memorable for her and her family.

Re-fueling and Cozy Vibes at Home in Cary
When our session at the Coker Arboretum concluded, we made a pitstop at the new Raising Cane’s in Chapel Hill to see what everyone had been talking about. It was a fun break that helped us all refuel and recharge before heading back to Cary for the final part of Anika’s senior portrait session. Making sure that seniors have plenty of snacks during their senior portraits is so important as the day can be long and the North Carolina heat can make it doubly tiring!
At her home, we captured a series of cozy portraits of Anika that showed her love for her family pets. Her dog, Jax, joined her for several photos, adding warmth and playfulness to the session. We also photographed Anika with her beloved turtle, who has a personality of her own! Seeing their connection was adorable and helped tell Anika’s story in her senior pictures. It was also the first time Teresa had to physically stop herself taking more portraits of the turtle, because she loved being center-stage and we loved her!
After strolling through Chapel Hill, we headed to Anika’s home in Cary, where we captured cozy portraits with Anika and her dog, Jax, and the cutest turtle. Anika’s warmth and personality came to life, and we loved telling her story.
