Senior pictures guys should reflect who they really are. At the beginning of Matthew’s senior year (Cary Academy, Class of 2017) he contacted My Friend Teresa Studios for his senior pictures guys.
Senior Pictures Guys: Matthew G
Teresa had done senior portraits for Matthew’s older brother Andrew. At the planning meeting, Teresa learned that Matthew loves music of all types, and plays drums in a jazz band. He also enjoys coffee, history, science and gardening. He had just recently set up a sound board in his home. Friends say he is goofy and creative. After some discussion, they agreed to do Matthew’s shoot in downtown Durham, and also at his home with the drums. Teresa wanted his senior pictures for guys to be a total reflection of all sides of Matthew.
They met early one Sunday morning in mid-September near the Carolina Theater in Durham. Matthew was good natured, even though there was a street festival and a church service setting up near by. He had a great smile and there were lots of laughs! He joked that his blue denim shirt was ‘probably a woman’s’. He wore it with jeans and said it was his ‘Canadian tuxedo’. They met the next day at Matthew’s home for shots with the drums. They laughed about his grandma’s oriental rug on the wall in the unfinished space. And Teresa kept calling his ‘tom-tom’ drum a ‘tat-tat’! There was lots of laughter and great senior pictures guys showing all of Matthew’s personality.
Matthew and his mom came to the studio a few weeks later to see the “Wall of Matthew”…all of Matthew’s portraits matted and displayed on the gallery wall. The variety was stunning and some of the proofs printed in black and white were very striking. Teresa also recalled Andrew’s portraits from the archives and designed a custom wall art canvas grouping of the two boys. The family loved it, and also chose two acrylic block prints along with some of Matthew’s digital files.
When the canvases arrived, Scott, our professional installer (and also Teresa’s dad), installed the canvas grouping. The family was so excited to have both boys on the wall to see and enjoy as a family keepsake.
After graduation, Matthew is no doubt still enjoying music as he pursues his next life journey.
