Ava’s junior year was winding down and she was excited to look forward to her first senior year experience…..high school senior photos.  Teresa had done portraits of Ava in middle school and couldn’t wait to do her senior portraits.

Senior Portraits Cary:  Urban colors and Rosie the dog

When we met with Ava to plan her session, we learned that she is passionate about tennis and debate.  She wanted a very natural lighting for her high school senior photos, ideally with some colors and an urban vibe.  Mom definitely wanted her to have portraits that represent Ava’s authority and power.  Ava loves her dog Rosie, and planned to bring her along.  Our creative team got busy planning a session itinerary.

A few weeks before her session, we met with Ava at her home to help her select outfits and accessories.  Her mom owns a styling business, so there was lots to play with!

We met Ava on a warm summer evening in downtown Durham at a local cantina.  There is a colorful mural there, and a neighborhood ‘satellite park’ that gave us the urban colors and vibe that Ava was looking for.   Of course Rosie, her dog, came along.  Justin was the only one who could get Rosie not to stick out her tongue…by singing really loud!

Teresa had arranged special access to the Kings Daughters Inn for the last part of Ava’s session.  Ava’s strength and grace came through, capturing her perfectly.

The behind-the-scenes video shows it all!

A few weeks later, Ava and her mom came to the studio.  They viewed the behind-the-scenes video and a slide show of all of her portraits.  They selected their favorites for the yearbook.  They also chose a curved metal and an acrylic block from our desktop presentations, some wall art, and a digital file.

We loved having the opportunity to do Ava’s high school senior photos and to see how she had changed since we first did her portraits 4 years ago.  Ava has graduated and is no doubt sharing her grace and smile with everyone she meets.
