Ethan’s senior portrait session was one of our very favorites to photograph. He is a senior at Cary Academy, who is multi-talented and full of personality. Ethan plays golf, the cello, and has a strong interest in STEM, especially physics, and the creativity that runs as a common thread between it all is what helped make his senior portraits so special. His senior pictures were designed to capture that thoughtful and balanced energy in a setting that felt cool, urban and true to him.
Character and Style in Durham
Ethan wanted a session that felt urban without being over-the-top, focusing on texture, brickwork, stairs and an overall neutral feel. Nearby Durham was the perfect match, with it’s buzzing downtown. The American Tobacco Campus provided layers of interest at every turn, from red brick walls and stairways to the water features and quieter corners filled with light. The setting reflected both the creative and structured sides of his personality, which was reflected in every image.
We were able to help Ethan relax in front of the camera and that allowed his lively personality to drive the session and his confidence reflected throughout his senior portraits. He brought a natural ease to his poses, and we coached him in what would help him look his best and feel natural. The mix of industrial texture and soft lighting gave his senior pictures a modern and classic feel that fit him perfectly.

Downtown Durham Views and Iconic Moments
We made sure that during his senior portrait session, Ethan was photographed in a mix of iconic Durham locations and more location-neutral settings, so that he had a variety to choose from in his senior portrait collection. We opted for a more classically-urban setting at the top of a parking deck, with the view of the city behind him to create a striking background. The famous Durham Bull sign glowed behind him, contrasting with the Lucky Strike Tower in the background, added a uniquely-Durham touch to his senior portraits. These senior photos captured both the energy of the city and Ethan’s own presence within it.
Each location contributed its own personality to the session. The earthy, red bricks of the American Tobacco Campus and the warm tones of golden hour around him helped everything blend together beautifully. The result was a full set of professional senior pictures that felt authentic, expressive, and timeless, with a local touch to where Ethan has grown up.
A Senior Portrait Experience with Style
Ethan’s senior portrait experience showcased both his individuality and his easy sense of style. We helped him with outfit choices as part of our design meeting, and with four outfit changes, we added depth and variety to his session. He began in a button-down shirt and suit jacket that gave his portraits a polished, refined tone. Later, he changed into a more casual look with blue jeans and pastel-colored shirts, and finally a relaxed Hawaiian shirt that showed his personality and fun-loving side.
