Your senior portraits are your opportunity to show who you are. Every choice adds to a look that feels authentic and true to you, and we’ll help you select outfits that you feel great about.
What to Wear for Senior Pictures:
For a Feminine Look
If you’re wondering what to wear for senior pictures, remember: the most important aspect is to choose outfits that reflect you and make you feel your best. Flowing dresses, structured tops, sweaters, or a great pair of jeans or shorts all work beautifully. Neutrals and soft colors photograph well, especially against natural backdrops like the beach, the lake or wildflower fields. You can also bring something with a pop of color or something trendy for contrast, and we’ll guide you through those choices when we come to your home for your design meeting.
If you’re wanting to add a pop of glamor, feel free bring a formal look like a prom dress or a sleek, fitted jumpsuit. These photograph beautifully, no matter the setting, and add a touch of elegance to your senior pictures. And don’t forget shoes that match your outfit!
For a Masculine Look
When the aim is a masculine look, solid colors, clean layers, and simple textures should be your go-to. A classic button-down, a quarter-zip sweater, or a polo shirt with jeans or khakis offers a timeless and relaxed look. If you’re wanting to dress up and add a something a little more formal, feel free to bring a your suit-and-tie for a few elevated portraits. For shoes, sneakers and loafers will help bring your outfit together.
We also love capturing each senior’s personality through more casual, everyday looks, so don’t be afraid to go with options that feel like ‘you’. When planning what to wear for your senior pictures, the key is variety, so plan for at least three complete outfits with coordinating shoes. But don’t worry if it feels overwhelming, we’ll walk you through what looks best in your design meeting.
Bonus Tip
If you’re an athlete, musician, artist, or part of a club or team, bring items that reflect your interests to your senior portrait session. We can incorporate jerseys, instruments, props, or gear into your session. These details bring personality and help make your senior portrait experience tailored to who you are and what makes you, you.

What makes you, you? From formal outfit choices and posing in front of the piano or microphone, or showing a piece of your culture, we’ll help you create senior pictures that tell your story.
What to Bring to Your Senior Portrait Session:
All planned outfits (on hangers, wrinkle-free, and with coordinating shoes and accessories)
- Water bottle – don’t underestimate the need to stay hydrated, especially during our warm North Carolina weather! Our senior portrait sessions are fun but can also take some time, so be sure to bring water with you.
- Snacks in the car – Remember, you’ll need to keep your energy up. Especially if your session includes multiple locations or stretches over a few hours.
- Mini fan – in North Carolina, and we all need to fight the humidity. Make sure to bring a small fan with you to your session.
- Lipstick, lip gloss or powder – you never know when you might need a touch-up!
- Bug spray and sunscreen – this is especially important for outdoor locations like the beach, lakes or fields, but even in the city you’ll be exposed to the sun and plenty of bugs!
- Hairbrush or hairspray – keep these in the car, just in case!
- Your sports gear, uniform, or personal items – anything you would like to include in your senior pictures. The sky’s the limit!
- Don’t forget to pack a pair of casual flats or sneakers for walking between locations. We cover a lot of ground in a senior portrait session!
What to Expect:
Before we even think about taking your senior portraits, we’ll meet for your planning session to learn about all about you, what you love (and hate!), talk through ideas, location options, and we’ll give creative direction. From there, we’ll set up your in-home design meeting to plan your outfits right from the comfort of your own closet to choose what to wear for your senior pictures.
On the day of your session, we’ll guide you through every pose and location, and we promise at least one good laugh along the way! We carefully plan every step so that we capture you naturally with expressions that don’t feel forced. We’ll have our mobile changing room with us so that you can switch outfits with ease and you’ll be surprised how quickly you get comfortable in front of the camera! After that, you’ll meet for your viewing meeting where you will choose the images that you love the most to form your senior portrait collection.
